Swinging music, bootleg liquor, burlesque dancers, flirty flappers, dashing dappers, it can only mean one thing: Kick The Gong Around is back and putting together another glittering retro-themed bash.

Amidst the hush-hush recesses of Choir Bar, formerly the headquarters of 19th Century opium importers Russell & Co. and the Bund’s most vintage address (circa 1860); we will be turning back the clock to the prohibition era for an evening of secret drinking and costumed capering on Saturday September 14th.

Exotic burlesque dancers, contortionists from the Shanghai Circus and our very own Chinese Charlie Chaplin will keep you entertained until the wee hours. To avoid any utterly unreasonable accusations of ‘loose morals’ by the temperance league, alcoholic beverages will be disguised in China teacups and cocktail menus will be circulated in old 1920s book jackets. Meanwhile, silent cinema will flicker from an old projector as re-claimed opium pipes- filled with fruit flavoured tobacco – are passed around by our waiters.

Traditional swing music and Electro Swing by DJ Baron Vulgaria and DJ B.O will keep the dance floor hot until your carriage arrives long after midnight.

TIP: Guys and dolls need to remember our password – ‘Minnie The Moocher’ – before being ushered into our specially prepared slice of old-time Shanghai.

1920s/30s costume or smart attire is obligatory please. Boys: dapper gents.Girls: flirty flappers.
